Tomorrow morning I leave for a 3-day vacation to the Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge, located on the edge of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest national park in the United States-and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (another one crossed off my list!).
It’s an 8-hour drive along the bumpy Denali Highway to reach the lodge. I am glad I will be with some great friends to pass the time.
We will arrive tomorrow evening with just enough time to eat dinner and go to bed. Tuesday morning is when the fun really begins! We are heading down to Valdez (a 2-hour drive) to go on a Prince William Sound glacier cruise. I am hoping we see some whales and calving glaciers, but I will just be happy if the weather is nice and we don’t see any snow!
We’ll head back on Wednesday, and if I am not too tired I will try to get a post and some pictures up.
*Side note: it snowed in Denali today. Mostly just the tops of the peaks and in the park, but still. August 7th and it’s already snowing. Crazy Alaska!
I don’t know how much we will get to see of Valdez. But I would love to explore the town some and learn more about the 1964 Good Friday earthquake and the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Well, I am off to pack!
Hoping everyone is having a fun and safe summer.
Talk to you soon!
