Girl Meets Bulgaria

Musings of an American expat in Bulgaria (with detours in Utah and Alaska)

One Week, Random Thoughts, and a GIANT Thank You!

As much as I’d like to keep plugging away at my road trip posts, I thought I’d take a break today and reflect (a bit) on the last three months of my life–along with some other bits and pieces.

Road Trip Round Ups will resume tomorrow

This time next week I will be on a plane headed back to Utah. It’s one month there visiting friends and family (and scarfing my way through all the foods I have been missing), then off to Denali, Alaska for a another summer under the Midnight Sun (search “Alaska” in the search bar if you want to read some of my AK posts!). As much as I want to be back in Utah and Alaska, I hope the time passes quickly so that I can get back to Ventsi and Bulgaria–oh and patatnik, LOVE me some patatnik! And lyutenitsa, can’t forget that delicious stuff!

I arrived in Bulgaria at the end of December, full of excitement for what my time here would bring.

That time has been a blur of snow, new foods, new holidays, meeting new family members, working, and traveling. Most importantly, it has been a time to finally live out my newlywed days with the hubster. He did leave for Bulgaria 2 days after we were married, after all!

I have truly enjoyed every minute of it–even with a struggle or two here and there–and I am so looking forward to coming back home (for Bulgaria is my new home) in the fall.

We’ll be living in Sofia when I return, so that is something to look forward to!

Seeing as I only have a few days  left in BG, I had to go shopping today to pick up some gifts for my Puppy (6 yr. old cousin). I buy her things on every trip I go on (and just day to day as well… can’t help myself!), and the dolls have turned into a tradition. I got her similar a one to the one in the photo below last time I was in BG. Vince brought her some when he visited, and I also bought her one when I went to Turkey on our cruise. I also got her a little cross stitch kit, wooden box, and martenitsa doll as well. Other than this, I have not done much shopping while I’ve been here.

More random photos:

HUNGER GAMES! Nobody spoil it for me, I am seeing it next weekend with my mom! Oh, and I am going to wear some of my new Hunger Games nail polish!

Look, Ma! FedEx! (my mom and uncle are FedEx account Execs. thought they'd appreciate this photo)

Lastly, but certainly not least. I would like to give a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS (you get the idea), thank you to all those who commented on my Koprivshtitsa post. I would love to reply to each and every comment, but thought a mass thank you would be a tad quicker! I am happy to report that this second (eek!) time being Freshly Pressed has given me an additional 50 or so followers, bringing my total to over 250! I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

Please leave a comment and introduce yourselves/link up your own blog. I will definitely check them all out!

5,000 views in 3 days is mind blowing! I am coming up on 50,000 all time views. WOWZA! I never thought this little blog of mine would go anywhere, so thank you to all of you who continually make my day!

This has been the most random post ever! I guess I just needed a brain dump!

  1. We’re excited to see you! Hey maybe you can come to my graduation! It’s on the 20th at 8 am… i’ll send you an invite at your mom’s. Anyway, it’ll be fun to see you. Annie’s getting so old so fast it’s crazy! Come soak her in a bit more!

  2. Hope your last week is fun and not too sad. Safe travels!

    • Thanks, Helen! I get to babysit my 2 month old grand-nephew tomorrow, so that will be a blast! Just trying to soak as much Bulgarian-ness in as I can before heading back to the states!
