For Your Listening Pleasure…

*UPDATE: Looks like the embed codes for the songs below may only work if you have Spotify. Will have to work on this soon! Sorry!**

My first post by this name (back in February) detailed my love affair with Mumford and Sons. Funny, it seems, that I find myself with a renewed obsession love for the band and their soulful lyrics since returning to Alaska.

I shared a video on that post of Mumford and Sons with the Avett Brothers and Bob Dylan at the Grammy’s. Looks like the video has since been taken down from YouTube (copyright reasons, of course), so the link it broken, but it’s well worth searching for online.

Along with Mumford and Sons, I am also loving more bluegrass and folk rock as well. Must be the fact that I live in the middle-of-nowhere-Alaska amongst beautiful woods, incredible wildlife, and the freshest air one could hope for.

All this sure lends itself well to the sounds of banjos, mandolins, fiddles, and raw voices.

But maybe it’s just me!

This, and some recent posts by Lauren on Baby in Bulgaria, pushed me to post about the sounds (of all genres) I’m enjoying right now.

Check them out…

(They’re all worth a listen, I swear!)

Mumford & Sons – Roll Away Your Stone

Mumford & Sons – Awake My Soul

The Avett Brothers – Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full Of Promise

The Avett Brothers – Kick Drum Heart

Beirut – Santa Fe

Beirut – Nantes

Josh Ritter – The Curse

Josh Ritter – Girl In The War

***

That’s probably enough for now!

But now that I know how to embed songs into my posts, I might make this a regular series.

Please share your own recent music loves in the comments.

  1. Hi Whit! I use spotify too and I can’t play the songs, it’s just showing as the codes, bummer! Have you ever listened to Ray LaMontagne? He’s folksy, bluesy- really good stuff! I got into his music recently and I’m hooked, just thought I’d share! 🙂

    • Rats! I was so proud of myself for figuring out (er… or so I thought) how to post them. And it’s so funny that you should mention Ray LaMontagne! I just bought a few of his albums on iTunes. I really enjoy his stuff. I am totally into folk rock and bluegrass these days. If you have any other suggestions, send them my way! Who knows what I will be into next. I am so ADD with my music tastes!

  2. It might be just me, but I can’t see movies…just the words you’d use to embed it.. weird.

On a happier note, your last post got ME obsessed with Mumford and Sons, thank you very much, so I’m excited to hear this new stuff. 🙂 Another one I’m loving is Alexi Murdoch. He’s awesome. “All My Days” is a good one, “Orange Colored Sky”, and really, all of them.

    • It’s not just you, that’s how I’m seeing it too.

      • Darn. Sorry, guys! Looks like the codes only work if you have Spotify (unless you do and still can’t see them–then I am clueless!). Will have to work on this later. They really are good songs, so I would like to have them available for a listen. Thanks for letting me know!

  3. It’s funny, I’ve been really into country and bluegrass lately as well! But not Taylor Swift kinda country. Good country, like Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline. Folks like them. And I love me some Mumford and Sons! You should also check out Old Crow Medicine Show. They are really bluegrassy and amazing!
