Wordless Wednesday: Termination Dust

Yep. It’s that time o’ the season here in Denali.

Termination Dust* spells the end of summer and the quick approach of the long, mind-numbing cold that is to come.

*The first, light dusting of snow; on the very tips of the mountains.  It’s a warning. The first, big snow is just around the corner.  .

The vibrant fall colors against the fresh, white snow is stunning.

Fall’s appearance is quick, however, as it will soon yield to the ever-powerful Alaskan winter.

I’ll be long gone when that time comes.

Can’t say that I am sorry to say that!

W.

  2. Will you miss the snow entirely? Gorgeous shots.

    • Thanks, Helen! Well, I don’t really know. Having even this light dusting of snow (which isn’t actually all that light) so early is unusual. Termination Dust is common in mid to late September; not so much in August. So… Based on that, I think we are in for some surprising weather in the next month. It would definitely fit in with how the weather has been the rest of this summer! I would not be shocked if a big snowstorm or two hits before I leave. It will be interesting to see how the tourists react to that!

  3. What a beautiful view! I´ve tried so many times to leave a comment, but it never worked. Hopefully this time!
How do you like Bulgaria? As a child I´ve been there 6 times.
    Happy WW!

    • Hi, Verena! I’m sorry my comments haven’t worked for you before. I wish I knew more coding, then I could fix that kind of stuff. I love Bulgaria. I am dying to get back. Will be heading over in November. Thanks for stopping by. Please come again! W.

  4. Oh are you lucky – you got such great, clear shots!!!! I was there a few years ago (earlier in the summer) and got some great shots too.

    • I certainly feel lucky! I always love hearing from people who have been here and experienced Denali firsthand. I think everyone should have the opportunity at least once in their lifetime. Thanks so much for stopping by! W.

  5. Beautiful pictures. After the summer we’ve had, I’m ready for fall, but not for winter.

  6. Looks gorgeous!
I just started a travel blog, hope you can come and visit sometime 🙂
And I also added it in the linky!

  7. That is a fabulous set of pictures. A couple of them are frame worthy.
