Beauty Favorites

Over the past few years I have become very interested in makeup and beauty products. I can almost entirely blame this change in myself (the girl who didn’t wear a lick of makeup until she was about 20-years-old) on the YouTube “beauty community.” Essentially, this community is group of women (and some teen girls) who make videos on beauty-related topics. I stumbled upon a few “gurus” several years back and I have been addicted ever since. It’s a guilty pleasure that I don’t see myself giving up anytime soon!

Typical video topics include: makeup tutorials, shopping hauls, empties (products they have used up), monthly favorites, blog-like tags, and celebrity-inspired looks.

Because of the huge success of many beauty gurus (Michelle Phan, the original YouTube beauty guru, is now a millionaire because of her video sponsorship’s and partnership with YouTube), every 13-year-old with a camera and some makeup now plops themselves in down and talks about beauty, and more power to them!

One afternoon a few weeks back I was lovingly playing with my makeup and decided to do a post on my favorite beauty products. It’s a far cry from actually making a YouTube beauty video, but I don’t see that ever happening!

This list isn’t comprehensive as the vast majority of what I own is back in Utah, but these are the things I love the most and chose to haul over the Atlantic with me.

I like reading blog posts like these because it helps me discover new products and hear people’s opinions.

Alrighty. Here we go!

As a redhead, I have to be a bit more careful when it come to the makeup colors I wear. I’m a fairly conservative person when it comes to this stuff anyway, so I am ALL about the neutrals!  It’s rather sick how much eyeshadow I have, but I can’t seem to help myself!

-Too Faced Natural Eye Palette

-Wet ‘n’ Wild trio in Walking on Eggshells

-Maybelline Color Tattoo (cream shadow) in Bad to the Bronze

-Urban Decay Naked Palette (I bought Naked 2 online awhile back and can’t wait to get home and use it!)

Lips:

I was never into lip gloss or the like until pretty recently. I still don’t own any lipstick, but I have quite a few glosses and stains. I am more a chapstick type of girl!

– Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

-EOS lip balm in Sweet Mint (I think that’s the name!)

-Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

-Philosophy Lip Shine in Vanilla Birthday Cake

Nails:

I can’t stand having bare nails for very long. I love painting my nails and tend to gravitate towards reds and nudes. A little glitter now and then is nice too! My favorite brand is Essie. It’s a little on the expensive side (no where near the $14 I paid for that Butter London polish) but the formula is amazing. I have far more nail polish then I could ever use in one lifetime. I try to use what I have and not buy new, but with each season I add to my collection!

Nail polish bottles are heavy, so I only packed a few when moving to Bulgaria. These are some of my go-tos at the moment, but the shades will change when spring arrives!

-China Glaze Prism

-OPI The One That Got Away (Katy Perry Collection)

-Butter London Wallis (love this color but do not like the formulation of the brand or the price)

-Seche Vite Top Coat

Perfume:

Perfumes and scents are a tricky one for me. I used to get major headaches and even feel sick to my stomach whenever I was near someone with a perfume on. Not surprisingly, I never wore any scents myself–until a few years ago when Vince bought me a bottle of Armani Code for my birthday. I had fallen in love with the scent from a magazine sample and he was nice enough to order me a bottle and have it delivered with a cute note. I only wore the tiniest amount but I think I eventually built up my tolerance and now I can wear it as much as I want. I am still quite sensitive to scents, however, so when I find one I can handle I have to make it a part of my tiny, but growing, collection. I am a sucker for Bath and Body Works in general, so I have a lot of their body sprays, but I never seem to wear them.

Sephora was having a deal a few weeks ago and I ordered my newest favorite perfume, Chloe. I fell in love with it while on our cruise and would visit the perfume shop on the ship daily to spray myself with it. I won some money from the casino (not to toot my own horn, but I rock at Roulette) and was going to buy it but I didn’t in the end. I regretted it from then on, so I am now happy to have it and am excited to get home and give it a go!

The only perfumes I own (but they’re all-time favorites!)

-Gucci Flora

-Bulgari BLV II

-Miss Dior Cherie

Hair:

I am pretty lazy when it comes to my hair. I have thick, wavy hair that is quite frizzy at times. I never blow dry it and try to limit heat tools because I want to limit damage. I do, however, straighten it every so often when I simply can’t handle the frizz anymore!

-GHD Professional Straightener (the BEST straightener in the world and totally worth the money!)

-Orofluido hair oil (I hopped on the hair oil bandwagon a few years ago and I love ’em!)

-Frederik Fekkai Glossing Cream (not pictured because it was in Smolyan and I took these photos when we were still living in Sofia).

Makeup Removers:

These get the job done and don’t irritate my sometimes-sensitive skin.

-Sonia Kashuk Eye Makeup Remover

-Equate Exfoliating Cleansing Towelettes

Lush is a new addition to my world. Salt Lake City’s first Lush stores opened up over last summer and I was able to visit both before moving to BG. Lush’s body products are all-natural and handmade in Canada. Many of their products, like the Honey I Washed the Kids soaps, have cult followings. I went slightly mad over the heavenly honey smell and thought it was OK to spend nearly $9.00 on a small bar of soap. The little tin contains what’s left of a juniper sage shampoo bar ($10.00). I think that product is worth the money because you get 60-90 washes out of it and it can be used on the body and not just hair.

I am going to try and be good and steer clear of Lush when I am back in UT, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist! I really love their stuff! If I had a nice, big bathtub… Oh boy, all bets would be off! Their bath bombs and bath melts are to.die.for.

  1. From working at Sephora, I am all about beauty products! I’m a little biased since 90% of the stuff I love is from there, but we have some good stuff. 🙂 Here goes, my die-hard favorites:
Eyes- I cannot live without Urban Decay Primer Potion. Without it, nothing stays on my eyes too long! I also love Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner in Onyx for a good pencil liner and Stila Stay All Day liner in Intense Black for a liquid liner.
Lips- I make the best nude lip by using Smashbox Lipliner in Light to line and fill in my entire lip and then smacking Smashbox Reflection High Shine lipgloss on top. The gloss is a little sticky, but it’s such a great color and could be put on any lipstick for shine. I also have a lot of different red lipsticks. I really like the formula of Lancome’s Rouge in Love. They are really lightweight and have a good wear without being drying.
Nails- My new favorite nail polishes are Julep. They are a bit pricey too, but the brush and formula is great! Pippa is my go-to pinkish nude and Yumi is a really pretty sparkly one. For a more browny nude, I love OPI by Sephora Leotard-Optional.
Hair- I don’t really do much with my hair. It’s thick and straight. I love Bumble and Bumble’s color-treated shampoo and conditioners but they are pretty expensive. I’ll throw in a little product, Alterna Bamboo Shine cream for shine or a pomade for texture.
I could really go on and on about this stuff!

    • I am a little obsessed but I enjoy it! Thanks for all the great recommendations; I am always looking for that next best product! Nude lips are my thing, so I am definitely looking into the things you mentioned!

  2. Love that we’re both into the same YT channels lol and in love with the same Lush bar soap. Your lip favorites are for sure my favorites. Philosophy glosses are so delish smelling! Looking forward to more posts from you. Check out my February Favorites for some other suggestions. Maybe you’ll end up loving one of my faves too!

  3. I don’t have the Naked palette, but I do have a lot of the same colors in another palette and they’re awesome! They really do look good on anyone.

  4. I love your beauty collection. The Naked palette is one of my all-time favorites. I love the warm nude tones.
