Girl Meets Bulgaria

Musings of an American expat in Bulgaria (with detours in Utah and Alaska)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday: Back in Utah

This week’s SHH features some of my recent stateside adventures and activities.

Hope you enjoy!

1) New

Fresh, new ski and snowboard tracks up Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon–near Snowbird Ski Resort

2) Life

Farm life at Utah’s Wheeler Farm

3) Fragrant

As much as I enjoy seeing cute farmyard animals, standing downwind from their pens is not the most pleasant thing in the world. Pee-ew!

4) Pink

Okay, so there’s more than just pink in this one, but pink seemed to be the overriding theme as I was decorating eggs with my 6-year-old cousin.

5) Obvious

“Obvious” actually turned out to be a tough one for me this week. Then I saw this sign…

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Vince and I are back from our road trip across Bulgaria.

It was amazing and I am so happy that I got to see more of the country. Bulgaria’s landscapes are so diverse, rugged, and charming.

I took over 2,000 photos in just 5 days, so I had plenty to sift through for this week’s SHH.

And I am taking every opportunity I can to get some of the photos I took up on my blog. Be prepared for lots more in the coming days!

Hope you enjoy!

1) Vintage

Picking a photo for this prompt was tough! As we toured so many villages, museums, and old houses on our journey, I have loads of photos of really interesting old things. I ultimately chose this little cradle–which was in one of the house museums we toured–as I thought it was just so sweet.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I’m back for another round of SHS!

We haven’t been out of the apartment much this week, so a few of these were from outings we took last week. I think it’s ok to hit up the archives every so often!

1. Smile

This is a coffee shop near our apartment. I instantly thought of it when I saw the “smile” prompt! Although, the name isn’t very fitting. The one time my husband and I went there, they were out of coffee! How does a coffee “bar” run out of coffee?

2. Stand Alone

I feel like all the photography gods came together for this shot. A lone tree, snowy hill, bright blue sky, and fluffy clouds–beautiful! I posted this photo to my photoblog, Pixels from Afar, as well (I just love it that much!)

3. Something Old

An abandoned building we recently came across in our travels.

4. Artificial

Some fake flowers in our living room (made a little more interesting with a Pioneer Woman action).

5. Repeating Pattern

A set of doors on Alexander Nevski Cathedral

Bulgaria really is a photographers paradise!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday x2

Yeah… So I am lame and was working on last weeks prompts all week! I don’t know how that happened!

Good thing I took so many photos this week, though. I think I found some more that fit the actual prompts pretty well.

So, you get two scavenger hunts this week!

1. Stacked Up

Bulgarian’s sure have a knack for stacking firewood!

2. Winter Wonderland

3. Sweet

This sweet little guy came up to me a few days ago and I just had to snap some photos.

4. Hole

Man hole cover in Smolyan.

5. Frozen

Icy steps of death. My hubby tried to convince me to go down them, but I was having none of it! Who puts a set of steps on the side of a mountain and doesn’t include a handrail? Oh… Bulgarians do!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I haven’t done a SHS in quite some time, but with all the pictures I am taking these days, there’s no reason not to dive back in!

I really liked the prompts for this week and a few of them fit photos that I had been wanting to take since I got to Bulgaria.

1. One Color

It’s not technically one color, but I figured there’s enough white in there to count!

2. Laundry

I felt a tad creepy taking photos of people’s laundry, but because ours was in there too, I felt I was allowed (that’s us where the plaid shirt and blue sweater are–to the right of the nicely stacked firewood). You wouldn’t think laundry would dry out in the cold, snowy weather, but it does!

3. Empty

I posted two photos for this prompt and, sadly, I could have done many more. Smolyan (and Bulgaria in general) is full of abandoned and/or half-finished buildings. The first photo is of an abandoned building near our apartment and the second (which is Smolyan’s biggest eyesore) is a building reportedly started by an Arab sheik and then abandoned when he ran out of funds.

4. One Dozen

Couldn’t think of much for this prompt, so I busted out some of my lip products and took a {crummy quality} photo which I tried to jazz up with a Pioneer Woman action. Count ’em, there are 12!

5. Soft

Nothing better than some soft, fuzzy socks and a mug full of my MIL’s yummy homemade tea.
